Junior interview questionAsked at eBay · interview write-up
Frame named entity recognition for short e-commerce text like listing titles: which algorithm, what data processing, and which metrics?
Model answer
It's token classification with BIO tags for brand, model, size, colour. Titles are short and noisy, so a fine-tuned BERT-style encoder beats a CRF baseline. Normalize text, write labelling guidelines, and bootstrap labels from structured item attributes. Measure entity-level precision, recall and F1 per type, counting only exact span and type matches.
