These are 2 technical questions candidates reported being asked in Nuro interviews for AI engineer, ML engineer and applied AI engineer roles, each with a model answer you can say out loud in a minute or two. They cover latency & throughput and training: 0 junior, 0 mid-level and 2 senior questions. Every question comes from a public interview write-up that names Nuro.Updated
Nuro latency, throughput and goodput questions
Model answer
A router consults a model registry that maps each model name to versions, endpoints and traffic splits, enabling canary, shadow and A/B.
Artifacts are immutable and versioned together: weights, preprocessing and feature schema, with lineage to data and code. CI checks offline metrics, schema compatibility and latency before promotion; canaries roll back automatically on SLO breaches.
Features come from an online store by entity key, with timeouts and defaults, using the same transforms as training; log what was served. Batch dynamically and autoscale on queue depth.
Nuro training and optimisation questions
Model answer
Jobs are declarative specs: image, data version, resources. The scheduler gives each team a guaranteed quota and lets idle capacity be borrowed, preemptibly. Gang scheduling places all of a job's workers at once, topology-aware, so no half-started job holds GPUs.
Datasets are immutable, content-hashed snapshots referenced by version. Tracking records config, commit, data version, metrics and artifacts per run.
Jobs write sharded checkpoints asynchronously to object storage, and preemption triggers one; on node failure, the job restarts from the latest. Monitor GPU utilization and queue time per team.
Each question comes from a public interview write-up or video that names Nuro; the answers are ours. Not affiliated with Nuro.
